Feeling Isolated And Unprepared By A New Diagnosis Or Onset Of Symptoms?

Whether you’ve recently been managing mental or physical health challenges, received a new diagnosis, or are years into navigating life with a neurodiverse brain, you know that the struggle is real. A lot of information has been thrown your way, and it makes sense if you’re not feeling fully prepared to address difficulties head-on with skills that work for you.

Group therapy is an effective way to receive the guidance of an expert, incorporate skills-based counseling in real time, and form community along the way. Through our group therapy opportunities, you can have access to affordable care while feeling supported by peers who get it.

Group Therapy Opportunities Through Our Practice

At California Integrative Counseling Center, we offer a range of group therapy programs that are tailored to the needs and goals of both the neurotypical and neurodiverse adults we work with. Approaching trauma, neurodivergence, and general mental health concerns from a systemic, relational lens that empowers participants’ skills and strengths, our group therapy opportunities foster both inner and outer connection.

Some of the skills we focus on are:

  • Newly Diagnosed / Interest-Based Nervous System – essentially “ADHD 101,” this introductory, 8-week group is designed to provide newly diagnosed adults with a framework for building in support and learning new ways of engaging with their brain.

  • Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) Support – the emotional side of ADHD is explored in 8-week group therapy through a clinical, skills-based lens, teaching clients how to manage their triggers and self-perception.

  • Recovering from Emotionally Immature Parents – drawing on attachment research, this group uncovers the most deeply-held and authentic parts of the self that exist beneath the wounds and beliefs resulting from emotionally immature or unavailable caretakers.

  • LGBTQIA+ Neurodivergent Support – focusing specifically on the queer experience of neurodivergence, this group nurtures community, provides opportunity for reparative dialogue, and teaches relational skills.

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support – skills-building is an essential aspect of learning to manage ruminating thoughts and compulsive behaviors in this group, which creates a safe space for clients to discuss their experiences with OCD.

  • Trauma Recovery – this group incorporates gentle, body-based techniques and therapies to help survivors explore, validate, and verbalize traumatic experiences while offering actionable skills for managing acute symptoms and triggers.

In group, we’ll explore everything from the clinical aspects of your experience to the daily feelings and emotions that come with living in a world that puts obstacles in the way of you and your most healed and attuned life.

These sessions happen in a warm, nonjudgmental atmosphere where honesty is valued and gentle challenging can take place. We want to help you feel supported to finally remove the mask you’ve been wearing, demystify your diagnosis, and determine which rules you want to live by on the path to achieving your goals and dreams.

Still Have Questions? Ready to Take the Next Step?

What To Expect

Group therapy sessions range in duration and are led by therapists according to specialization. Typically, groups are held virtually over a trusted telehealth platform, running 8 to 10 weeks with sessions lasting for 50 minutes once each week. Each group session costs $100, which includes the session itself, as well as the materials provided to help you practice and strengthen skills between sessions.

The process begins with a complimentary consultation call with our practice owner, Karla, who will work with you to determine which group best fits your needs and schedule. Then, you will complete an individual 30-minute intake with the therapist who is leading your group so that they can get to know you and tailor sessions to your unique needs. Following that, your weekly group sessions—usually including around 5 to 8 participants—will begin!

We know that, particularly in the case of neurodivergence, you may have the idea that there’s a certain script to live by in order to be successful. You may have even gone to therapy or treatment in the past that taught you to organize your life according to rigid rules or systems.

We believe in the value of a diagnosis and collaborative treatment with psychiatrists and other providers. We also work to build a treatment “team” and therapy approach that fits the unique needs of each person. At CICC, your individual goals and dreams are still at the center of therapy, even when it’s in a group setting.

Our highly trained, experienced therapists are passionate about the relational work that gets done in group, and we have lived experience in our group focus areas. We strive to stay current on research, administer best practices, and remain inclusive while ensuring that affordable group options are accessible to clients throughout the year.
